I began working for Shirley Mitchell a couple of years ago as her care giver. We became fast friends and not long after we considered one another family. We would go out to eat some days she would just drive around the city to show me places she had lived. She would tell me all of her memories for each place we stopped to look at while on these little excursions. She was a kind hearted, funny, caring, passionate, stubborn lady who was the joy of my life. I have never laughed so hard until our stomachs would hurt, we would stop laughing and start back until I would walk out of the room. A bright , meticulous, vibrant and beautiful woman. Most days she was the highlight of my day. She considered me her daughter I felt honored that me being in her life left an indelible impact in her life when she needed it most. I am happy that I was able to be the person to bring her joy and laughter in her final days. When I go to work everyday I just sit in the car and look at her house and cry because I’m still in disbelief she is gone. Shirley Jean Mitchell you were a wonderful woman with a zest for life, even through the pain. I love and appreciate you for being unapologetically Shirley you taught me a lot about life. You were my friend my confidante my family my daily bright spot and other days you weren’t you brought me joy and you will forever have a special part of my heart. You are missed, thought of and most definitely loved. My dear friend see you on the other side beautiful lady.
My condolences thoughts and prayers go out to her family and loved ones.
