Mrs. Lora Clemmons

January 30, 1952 – November 11, 2018

Lora Jean Randle was born to Lucious Randle, Sr. and Millie Ray (McCullough) Randle on January 30, 1952 in
Fort Hood, Texas. She attended Turner Elementary School and Miller Middle School before entering Jack Yates
High School. As a student at Yates, Lora was a majorette and student body president. Always outgoing, she was
often found spending time with neighborhood friends and with her younger brother, Dr. Lucious Randle, Jr., with
whom she had a very special bond.
Upon graduation from high school, Lora attended Fisk University, where she majored in English and Drama. She
was a stellar student, and following her graduation from Fisk in 1973, she attended Thurgood Marshall School of
Law at Texas Southern University in Houston.
In 1980, Lora met Dr. John B. Clemmons, Jr. of Savannah, Georgia in Atlanta, Georgia
and they married on May 10, 1980 in an elegant garden wedding in Houston. After
practicing family law for five years, Lora joined her husband’s medical practice as
office manager and served in that position for more than 37 years. She was beloved
by patients, their families and the office staff.
As a couple, Lora and John were devoted to family. In 1984, the love of Lora’s life was
born – her niece Lauren Randle. Lora devoted her life to molding Lauren, and they
were two peas in a pod.
Second to the love that she had for her family, Lora loved fashion. She was selected
as a Houston Chronicle’s Best Dressed Honoree in 1997 and 1999, and upon achieving
this honor in 2001, became a member of the Best Dressed Hall of Fame. She was often
seen about the city attending the theatre or dining at her favorite restaurants donning
Chanel, Valentino, Yves Saint Laurent, Carolina Herrera and Oscar de la Renta.
Lora held a passion for the fine arts and for making a difference in the greater Houston
community. She was active in supporting local arts and activities including The
Ensemble Theatre, The Museum of Fine Arts and the South Central YMCA.
These passions extended into a number of other community organizations, and Lora served on the boards
of the Houston Grand Opera, the Houston Symphony Society, the Society for the Performing Arts, Friends of
the Texas Medical Center Library and The Ensemble Theatre. She was also a member and served on various
committees for the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts, Star of Hope, Houston Area Urban League and the
League’s Whitney M. Young Society.
Lora was preceded in death by her mother, Mille Rae McCullough Lott; father, Lucious Randle, Sr.; and stepfather,
Heaullan E. Lott, Esq. She leaves to cherish her precious memory her loving and dedicated husband of 38 years,
Dr. John B. Clemmons, Jr.; brother, Dr. Lucious Randle, Jr.; her stepsisters, Linda Lott, D.D.S. and Chere D. Lott, Esq.
of Los Angeles; nieces, Lauren Randle, Esq. and Leah Randle; great-niece Isabella Feliz; and cousins, Leanna
Taylor and Dorthea Carter; a host of other relatives and friends.
