Nora Robbins (Riser)

March 31, 1943 – October 4, 2024

Nora Mae Robbins was born in the tiny town of Seven Oaks, Texas in 1943 to Lloyd Robbins and Elnora Robbins, who was wed before World War II, making her a by-product of the “baby boom.”

Nora Robbins was the eldest of their two children, with Donald “Don” Robbins being her only other sibling to the couple. She grew up and went to school in the tight-knit rural Leggett, Texas area up to the tender age of 16, when she moved to Houston with her aunt, Virdie Hardy, where they were proprietors at a one-time family owned Fifth Ward neighborhood cafe.

Soon after her arrival there, she attended Phillis Wheatley High School in the surrounding community. As a high school student, would later meet and fall in love with Abraham Riser of Jefferson, Texas (now deceased) at the café soon afterwards.

They got engaged to be married. He married her on her 19th birthday on March 31, 1961 and they soon had a growing young family together and stayed married for nearly 20 years.

She is survived by her four sons with Abraham Riser, Sr.: Abraham Riser, Jr. (since widowed)  and her grandson James; Darryl Riser; E. Al Khalifah Kalashnikov (living in Utah) and Myron K. Riser and his wife, Veronica Riser their four children. She has one other son, Kwame D. Addison (now deceased).

She is also survived by many other family members, many who continue to live within the Greater Houston metropolitan area.

She left this world peacefully in her sleep on the morning of October 4, 2024, when paramedics were unable to resuscitate her, she went on to be with the Lord, that day.

I am deeply saddened and extremely disappointed because no one in the family sent me information about the funeral proceedings of my beloved mother. Ironically after the funeral, Abraham asked me why I didn’t come to the funeral and the day after the funeral Myron sent me an email asking me why I didn’t come to the funeral… I FORGIVE YOU.
