Rhenard Boughton

September 6, 1958 – June 18, 2023

Rhenard was born in Newark, New Jersey to the proud parents of William Dennis Boughton and Thelma Louise Boughton on September 6, 1958.

He was baptized at the age of twelve in his father’s church, Gospel Tabernacle Holiness Church in Newark.

Rhenard was educated in the Newark Public School system and graduated from Weequahic High School.

After considering several employment options, Rhenard decided to join the military in 1980, and he received a honorable discharge in 1985. He was a proud soldier, and received several medals and awards. He also played in the Army band.

While stationed at Ft. Hamilton Army Base in Brooklyn, New York he furthered his education by attending Kingsborough Community College.

During his tour of duty at Ft. Hamilton, Rhenard met and ultimately fell in love with his future wife, Leronia Basnight. After returning home from a tour of duty in Korea, Rhenard and Leronia wed. They were married on September 21, 1985 at Leronia’s church in Brooklyn, New York. Shortly thereafter the couple moved to Texas so that Rhenard could complete his remaining three months of duty at Ft. Hood. Upon completion of his military obligations, Rhenard and his wife moved to Houston, Texas. Four years later their son, Quinton Lamar Boughton was born. Rhenard was the proudest father in the world!

While in the Army, Rhenard was trained as a petroleum supply specialist, so to support his familyhe decided to get his Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) so that he could drive 18 wheelers, specializing in carrying petroleum and other hazardous materials. He loved his career choice, and drove 18 wheelers for more than 30 years. The company Rhenard worked for the longest, was Dupre Logistics. He was one of their top drivers, he received many awards, and was well-liked and respected by co-workers and management alike.

In addition to his profession, Rhenard enjoyed listening to music, and he played several musical instruments. He also enjoyed cooking. Rhenard was considered a historian by many, and had a never-ending quest for knowledge, making him an avid reader. He was also a great listener, and enjoyed doing whatever he could to put a smile on the faces of others. He was a very generous, kind-hearted man, who would give you the shirt off his back, never expecting anything in return. Rhenard truly loved people and doing for others. But the most important thing in the whole world to him, was family.

Rhenard leaves to cherish his memory his beloved son, Quinton Boughton (Brittany), 2 grandchildren, Layla Elise Boughton and Elijah Lamar Boughton, loving friend Maria Elena Gomez, former wife, Leronia (aka Ronnie) Boughton (Flamingo Stringfellow), brothers, Richard Reed (Sherry) and Donald Boughton, sisters, Patricia Denise Williams, Latanya Boughton and Greta Boughton. Also, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.

Rest well our beloved Rhenard!
